LOCAL FOOTBALL CLUB TO BE SHUT DOWN
A local football club is set to be shut down due to the finances being poor. Heath Panthers was founded in 1987 and has been based at Thrift Road Recreation Ground in Heath and Reach, with a junior section attached.
The club has had its ups and downs over the years, including a pitch invasion by moles, and this time the Football Association and local league has blown the final whistle on what it sees as unacceptable playing facilities.
LOCAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENTS GETTING A BOOST
Many local football tournaments are getting a major boost in the form of sponsors, who were prepared to spend big. Athletes and fans from as far away as Toronto, Ohio, Indiana and across Michigan are set to join local soccer enthusiasts and spend money as they descend on area hotels, restaurants, movie theaters, retail shops, ice cream stands and other businesses.
Mooroolbark 4 - 0 Dandenong Sparrows
The winter sun shone on Esther park yesterday as 6th-placed Barkers had their first-ever encounter with Dandenong Sparrows, lying 3rd. An entertaining game was in prospect, with 2 of the division’s top 3 scorers (Ithier and B.Adams) on show. Barkers made 2 changes from the side that lost 2-3 in the Old Melburnians swamp, with Cauteruccio and Hardcastle replacing Andrew Findlay and Coe. On the bench, Haidar was poised for his senior debut, while T.Adams, returning from Monbulk, would make his first Barkers appearance for 4 years.
Mornington 1 - 1 Dandenong Sparrows
On a cold and drizzly day Mornington faced off against old foes Dandenong Sparrows in what turned out to be a lacklustre affair.
From the kick-off it was clear that no team was willing to give an inch with a number of big tackles coming in from both sides.
Dandenong then took the lead when a Watson clearance was intercepted leaving Sparrows with the easiest of chances that Chinien slotted away.
