TIM CAHILL SET FOR FFA DEBUT
Tim Cahill is set to get his debut for Melbourne City on Wednesday night when they take on Brisbane.
The former Everton star joined the A-League after the contract with Shanghai Shenhua was terminated earlier this year. The Australia international has 91 caps to his name as a Socceroo star. Keith Stevens spoke to FOX Sports ahead of the game, having shared a jersey with Cahill in London at Millwall.
The son of legend Keith Stevens, Fraser would watch the game from the stands with his father due to his broken leg injury. Keith said his friendship with Cahill went way back. He revealed how they met, saying that he had joined the youth team of Millwall to train as he only returned from cruciate injury. He said the team were supposed to take it easy on him as he only returned from injury, but he and Cahill didn’t go easy on one another. He said they became friends after the game, and remained in touch till date.
Keith is a Millwall veteran, featuring in 462 games for the club before he joined the management. He eventually moved to Australia a few years ago, where he runs some businesses. He hailed Cahill for his exploits as a footballer.
“[Cahill] conducted himself well too, while outside of the game, he has been very smart business wise. He’s a wonderful footballer, and a great fella to know,” Keith said. He added that he was only on the pitch with Cahill for 45 minutes in the senior football team when Millwall defeated Luton 2-1 back in 1998. His son, Fraser is an upcoming defender and could go the way of his dad if he can establish himself. Keith admitted that he was better than he was, but the injury is a major problem.
