STRENGTHEN THE TEAM
After a successful campaign in Europe, Celtic would be hoping to strengthen the team in the summer. The Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said that he would love to be in the position of his predecessors when it comes to spending money in the transfer window.
Celtic are unlikely to give Lennon a lot of money in the upcoming summer transfer window due to the current economic climate. Rangers were recently demoted to the third division of Scottish football due to the spiralling debts. Even though Celtic were not given a chance in Europe, Lennon managed to get the team into the last 16 stage of the competition.
They were ultimately knocked out of the competition by the Italian club Juventus. Lennon has said that he will be able to do even better next season, but he wants investment in the region of £ 10 million. Celtic have a 15 point advantage in the table over the second placed Motherwell. They are the favourites to win the title this season, but the real barometer of their success has been the Champions league. Lennon has pointed to the fact that the club has a really young squad at the moment, while they have also managed to make a profit in the last few transfer windows.
"What I need is investment. If I can get £10m to spend on new players in the summer then we'll be even better. This club is ripe: we've got really talented young players in the team. We haven't spent a lot of money; we've made a profit every (transfer) window and have cut the wage bill. Sometimes, when you have that sort of cutback, then the quality is diluted at times and that's what we're seeing at the minute," said the Celtic manager ahead of the match with Aberdeen during the weekend.
