RYAN BENCHED FOR RAYO VALLECANO DRAW
Australia national team shot stopper Mat Ryan was on the substitutes’ bench from start to finish as Rayo Vallecano and his Real Sociedad played out a 1-1 draw. The Australia international has been the second choice goalkeeper at Real Sociedad since the start of the season. The ex-Club Brugge and Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper is in his first season at Real Sociedad whom he joined last summer.
Ryan was at North London giants Arsenal for the second half of last season. The Australia international was at Arsenal on loan from Brighton. He has been involvedin a bigger proportion of the Europa League games at Real Sociedad, while first choice Alex Remirohas been used mainly in the Spanish La Liga games.
Australia international Mat Ryan has featured in six games in all competitions including three Europa League matches and three Spanish La Liga matches.
For the Rayo Vallecano game, Real Sociedad were on a two-game winless run and they came close to ending that run when Norwegian striker Alexander Sorlothgave Real Sociedad the lead a few minutes after the half hour mark. His goal was the difference between the two sides at the halftime break. Veteran Colombian striker Radamel Falcao has been a major source of goals at Rayo Vallecano whenever he's fit and he was responsible for the equaliser with twelve minutes remaining. His goal ensured that Rayo Vallecano got a draw from the visit of Real Sociedad.
Real Sociedad have not recorded a win in the league since the 2-1 win at Elche during the second weekend of last month. Since then, they have drawn goalless with Real Betis away from home in a game they finished with ten men following the red card to veteran playmaker David Silva. The draw with Betis was followed by the 1-0 home defeat to Barcelona. The Barcelona game preceded the Rayo Vallecano clash.
