NO DIFFICULTIES IN QATAR
Former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill says that he is confident that the proposed 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be able to go ahead without any difficulties.
Fifa gave Qatar the right to host the 2022 edition of the World Cup, but this decision has since met with a lot of resistance especially from the Europeans. The intense heat in Qatar means that players are likely to be affected quite a bit physically even when the matches are kicking off late in the afternoon. Temperatures can hit around 50°C in the summer, which will be the time the World Cup is usually conducted.
The prospect of a winter World Cup has been proposed by Fifa, but this has not been welcomed by the European clubs since it would disrupt the league campaign and domestic football. Qatar have said that they would make several arrangements so as to make players comfortable. This includes providing an air-conditioned facility for the entire stadium. The Middle East nation are keen to show off their prowess in this regard, but it is looking highly unlikely that the World Cup will go ahead in this nation. Cahill, who is used to playing in the high temperatures, says that Qatar will probably come up with a great solution that would facilitate the nation to host the tournament.
"Every time I come here, I'm like, 'Wow,'. They should be proud of what they are creating. For me, I have no problem [with Qatar hosting the World Cup.] … I feel they deserve the opportunity. There [are] a lot of people that talk about the heat and talk about the facilities, [but] they have to question themselves as to whether they have actually been here. [The people of the Middle East] will prove a lot of people wrong, and if they don't, they will hold their hands up gracefully because that's the kind of people they are,” said Cahill.
