Millwall Boss Praises Tim Cahill’s Eight-Minute Cameo Versus Brentford
Millwall manager Neil Harris appeared to bizarrely praise the efforts of Australian veteran Tim Cahill, who made an eight-minute appearance against Brentford last weekend. The 38-year-old came onto the pitch in the 87th minute of the game, but he still managed to get himself booked for the third occasion in the last four appearances.
Speaking after the game, Harris said that Cahill performance was ‘outstanding’ as he maintained a good work-rate during the dying stages of the 1-0 triumph, he said: “You turn to your bench and you’ve got a 38-year-old Millwall legend who’s got more than 100 caps. He’s the perfect person to bring on ... He knows what it takes. He came on and lifted the crowd. He put himself about and chased lost causes. I thought him, Tom (Elliott) and Fred (Onyedinma) were outstanding when they came on the pitch.”
With the result, Millwall secured their fifth victory in six league games, and it was the second occasion on the bounce that George Saville had scored the winner within the first-minute of the game. The south London outfit are now just six points behind the playoff positions, and they could close the gap further next weekend where they take on Barnsley on the road.
Millwall were initially being tipped to survive in the Championship by making the best use of their home support, which enhances their results, but they are now looking at the prospect of vying for the play-offs, which would have seemed impossible prior to the festive period. Meanwhile, Cahill appears in a good shape with the limited opportunities, and he has now been named in Bert Van Marwijk’s first Socceroos squad for the international friendlies this month.
Cahill is likely to feature against both Norway and Colombia during the two-week international break, and the games will give the new manager an opportunity to determine the squad’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of the summer World Cup finals in Russia.
