CAHILL WANTS NO ACTION DURING INTERNATIONAL WINDOW
Tim Cahill wants the A-League to plan games such that there would be none on international playing windows.
The leading goal scorer for the Socceroos is the marquee signing for A-League club Melbourne City this campaign. The Football Federation Australia (FFA) had to help City with the marquee man’s deal. The 36-year old says the FFA should not be in action when national teams were playing.
“It’s not rocket science, is it? I’ll let the fans answer that question, but as a player we’re left in the situation that you’d never turn down your country? Every other league in the world stops. It’s obvious what should happen,” Cahill admonished.
From the comments, it is likely that the player would miss the first game of the season when Melbourne City take on Wellington Phoenix as he would be in action or the All Whites. The pre season games have been hard, but Cahill would likely miss out on the first game of the new campaign.
“I’ve been giving everything these last few pre season games. It’s so important that you try and make an impact on the games now, leading into missing the first one. I’m a player that doesn’t like missing games, but at the same time the players don’t put themselves in that predicament, it’s out of our hands,” Cahill added.
Cahill said the practise should stop as he feels the league, and fans are losing out. He seems pained that he would not play the first game as he said “the way you start the season is the way you want to go forward.” About five City players are likely to miss the game against Wellington who would present the strongest opposition in the season’s opener. Cahill knows Wellington are a tough opposition particularly after the 4-1 defeat in Townsville two weeks back.
