CAHILL REMAINS CONFIDENT OF MELBOURNE CITY
Tim Cahill has said that Melbourne City still have a chance at winning the title this term whilst admitting that Sydney FA are a team to contend with.
Sydney FA thrashed their rivals in a Christmas derby, leaving Melbourne City in fourth place in the standings.
The captain of Sydney FC Alex Brosque even declared that the team could be “running away with the title” with the way they were playing.
Melbourne, who are nine points behind the Sky Blues, believe that they can come back with Cahill saying he Hyundai A-League Summer of Football is a good platform for the team to reignite.
“They’re [Sydney FC] out in front and they deserve to be out in front. There’s a lot of football left and the second phase for Melbourne City will be totally focused on picking up a lot of points in the next 10 games,” Cahill declared.
“We were sting second until that loss and now we’re fourth with results [over the weekend] and also a piece of really important silverware. You’ve got to level it out and to win the A-league, from what I’ve seen in the past, you have to win two thirds of the season. So it’s going to be a big second phase for us,” Cahill added.
Melbourne host Perth Glory before they play Gostford to clash with Mariners. 2017 definitely would be a big year for Cahill, especially with the involvement of the Socceroos in the World Cup qualifiers and the FIFA Confederations Cup. However, the highest goalscorer for the Aussie insists that his focus is still the domestic setting.
“ For me personally, hopefully people can see the effort I’m putting in to stay on the pitch, to be involved in the A-League as much as possible and fully commit to being as fresh and competitive as possible and hopefully get the results we need to hopefully win silverware again,” Cahill said.
