Cahill reacts to Everton defeat
Former Everton striker Tim Cahill have urged the club's supporters to stand by their team following their recent run of dismal results. The Merseyside outfit have endured a difficult run in the Premier League this campaign, and this sees them just two points adrift of the dreaded drop.
Cahill, who is currently plying his trade with Melbourne City, regularly keeps tabs on the progress of his former club, and he was quick to voice his opinion via Twitter, he wrote: "The club needs to rally together to get us back on track. Can’t keep going on like this and losing games week in, week out."
Gylfi Sigurdsson notched a great goal to get Everton level at 1-1 against Southampton last weekend, but the South Coast outfit dominated proceedings therein, scoring three second-half goals which came from static defending from Ashley Williams, who has looked out of sorts this term.
Wayne Rooney was another surprise exclusion from the starting line-up, and the club's supporters were not pleased by David Unsworth's decision of letting the England legend warm the bench as his teammates struggled to overturn poor form at St Mary's.
The Toffees take on David Moyes' West Ham United at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, and their confidence is likely to be at a new low with everything seemingly going against them. Both Leighton Baines and Michael Keane were substituted during the bench with evident knocks, and Unsworth has confirmed that the pair are likely to miss the next couple of games.
Meanwhile, Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has revealed that the club are likely to announce a permanent head coach shortly, although they are yet to find a breakthrough with any of their targets. Watford's Marco Silva has been underlined as the prime option for the job, but he has for now distanced himself from the managerial role.
