CAHILL NOT INVOLVED
New York Red Bulls star player Tim Cahill has said that he will not be involved with the national team for the upcoming friendly match with Brazil. This is a very high profile friendly match for Australia, as they will be getting a taste of their World Cup opponents.
Brazil will be hosting the tournament and they have qualified as a result of it. Australia have been in a poor run of form in recent matches and they could have certainly done with the presence of the former Everton midfielder, who is known for his regular supply of goals from midfield.
He injured his ankle in a match with DC United recently. As a result, he will not be fit for the international match. He confirmed this news on his Twitter account. New York Red Bulls managed a 2-1 victory from the match, but they were disappointed to lose Cahill after just 58 min.
He was taken off for Thierry Henry. After the match, he underwent scans in order to assess the damage and it appears that the news is not good especially for the Australian national team. The 33-year-old is part of the designated players in the New York Red Bulls team.
This means that he is not affected by the salary cap currently in place in the MLS.
"Unfortunately I won't be fit to join @Socceroos in Brazil this week due to injury," said the 33-year-old on his Twitter account. "Such an emotional and memorable game. My son @kyahtimcahill with an amazing performance of the American national anthem and a great win," continued the midfielder about the victory for his team and also about his son, who attended the match. New York Red Bulls are currently top of the MLS table with 49 points on board after having played 29 matches.
