CAHILL BACKS MOYES
Former Everton star Tim Cahill has come to the rescue of underfire manager David Moyes, who is struggling in his new job at Manchester United.
The Scot left Everton for United in the summer, but he was already facing a huge task up his sleeve because he needed to replace Sir Alex Ferguson – widely considered as one of the most successful managers of all time.
Ferguson had been in charge of the United job for the last 26 years and he won numerous trophies during this period. Moyes has struggled in his first six months at United and the club are well outside the race to retain the title.
Despite being champions, United are also facing a huge fight to even finish in the top four. Cahill, though, has seen enough of Moyes during his eight years at Everton to suggest that Moyes will eventually come good at United. He has said that the Scot has all the qualities, which have sufficiently impressed Ferguson and Manchester United to take the plunge, required to be successful at the top level. The credibility of Moyes when it comes to managing the very top players has been questioned since he has never won a major trophy.
United are already out of the FA Cup and are on the verge of exit from the Capital One Cup as well.
"Any manager going to a new club is going to take time to adapt - notwithstanding injuries to a player like Robin van Persie - but the club has identified his qualities, they know what he's achieved and can see the bigger picture. What makes Moyes such a good manager? He has a wonderful ability to get the best out of players. Look at the courage of playing Adnan Januzaj, an 18-year-old, when the pressure is on," said Cahill.
