Brighton confirm loan signing of Aaron Mooy
Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the loan signing of midfielder Aaron Mooy from Huddersfield Town.
The Australia international had been desperate to make the comeback to the Premier League following the Terriers’ relegation last term and he managed to realise the ambition with the Seagulls only after he signed a new contract extension with his parent club.
"We are delighted to welcome Aaron to the club. He has played very well over the past two seasons in the Premier League and will bring a different option and added competition to our midfield. He's been a talisman for Huddersfield in recent seasons with his performances on the field and he's proved to be an excellent professional both on and off the pitch. I'm looking forward to working with him and he is another good addition to our squad ahead of the new season," Brighton boss Graham Potter told the club's official website.
Mooy had less than 12 months remaining on his previous contract with the Terriers and the club risked the prospect of losing him on a free transfer. However, they have now managed to commit him to a fresh three-year deal meaning that they could sell him for a reasonable price, suppose Brighton want to pursue his permanent signature next summer.
Meanwhile, Brighton are going through a new phase with the change of head coach and manager Graham Potter should present with a different way of tackling games. Under former boss Chris Hughton, the Seagulls were criticised by their own fans for the defensive tactic on the road, but may not be the case under Potter, who prefers to deploy a more open approach as seen at Swansea City and Ostersund.
Brighton start their league campaign with an away trip to Watford on August 10. They have fared impressively against the Hornets in the Premier League with just one defeat from the past four meetings.
