AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE TEAM OF THE WEEK FOR MATCHWEEK 2
The Australian League wrapped up an exciting and remarkable action matchweek that saw Central Coast Mariners retain their place at the top of the pile as they remained the only team to have recorded two wins of the two matches that have been played so far.
Here is the team of the week.
Goalkeeper
James Delianov - Adelaide United
The goalkeeper has two clean sheets in the two games he has played so far and is finding life beautiful so far after securing a move from Western United to Adelaide.
Defence
Macaulay Gillesphey - Brisbane Roar
Macaulay helped his side to secure an impressive win away at Melbourne Victory with an astonishing second-half performance.
Corey Brown - Brisbane Roar
Corey was the one who provided the assist for Macaulay to score the second goal from the corner flag. He also had an all-round game.
Tom Alfred - Brisbane Roar
Tom also had a band in marshalling the defence as well as appearing on the scoresheet. He organised the backline and was also a force going forward.
Jack Hingert - Brisbane Roar
Although Jack didn't appear on the scoresheet like his partners, he was outstanding at the back.
Midfield
Callum McManaman - Melbourne Victory
In his A-League debut, Callum produced a masterclass of performance for Victory. He was electric throughout the game and created great chances too.
Calem Niewenhof - Sydney FC
The homegrown star was sublime for his side. The 19-year-old was effortless and not only had four shots on target, but he also had a goal to his name.
Luke Brattan - Sydney FC
Luke capped a brilliant performance with a beautiful free-kick goal. He was superb for Sydney in
Alex Rufer - Wellington Phoenix
Despite being unable to help his side avoid defeat against Sydney, Alex was a boss in the middle of the park. He had the most aerial duels and also won possession most times as he impressed greatly.
Attack
Dylan Wenzel-Halls - Brisbane Roar
The 23-year-old has shown his potential in the two games if the campaign so far. He had a goal and an assist in matchweek 2 and is the first player to do so so far this season.
Tom Juric - Adelaide United
Tom has been battling to regain his spot in the team and is progressing well with that. He scored a goal to cap off a brilliant display and was the star of the show.
