Australia Prepare For Excellent Match Against Spain
Former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has stated that Australia are ready for one final excellent performance the World Cup, as they prepare to take on reigning world champions Spain. Even though Spain come into the match on the back of two defeats that sees them go out of the competition in the group stage, they will be a formidable opposition. Australia were expected to be the whipping boys in the group that contained Spain, Netherlands, and Chile. However, they have done rather well in the first two matches.
They come close to getting a result against Netherlands in the 3-2 defeat, while the match against Chile was also narrow as well. Australia manager Ange Postecoglou will be without the services of Cahill for this final match. The New York Red Bulls marquee name is suspended after receiving a second yellow card against Netherlands. However, Cahill says that he will be motivating his team from the sidelines in what will be his final World Cup. At 34 years of age, he is unlikely to be the World Cup 2018 in Russia should Australia qualify for this tournament.
Cahill has achieved a lot with the Australian national team and is expected to go into international retirement after this tournament. "We've got one more game to go and it is not about Tim Cahill. This last game is massive. If we beat Spain that will be one of the biggest moments in Australian history," said Cahill. Their opponents Spain also suffered two defeats in the group, but both of them were heavy defeats. Spain manager Vicente del Bosque has promised to make a lot of changes for this encounter.
The players that were responsible for the enormous success in the last six years will be recalled to the team at the expense of new players like Diego Costa.
