AUSTRALIA GOALIE SET FOR ARSENAL DEBUT
Australia national team shot stopper Matt Ryan is set to make his debut for new team Arsenal ahead of their Premier League meeting with Aston Villa at the weekend. Aston Villa play hosts to the Gunners in the first game of the next set of Premier League matches this weekend and Matt Ryan could be in the Arsenal goal due to the absence of first choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
Australia goalkeeper Matt Ryan became an Arsenal goalkeeper last month after joining on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion. Matt Ryan is the first choice shot stopper for the Australia national team and he had to leave Brighton and Hove Albion after he fell out with Seagulls boss Graham Potter. The Australia shot stopper played all but one of the first twelve league games for Brighton this season before the manager settled for Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. Matt Ryan signed for Brighton from Valencia CF of Spain in the summer of 2017 and he was the Brighton first choice for several years until this season.
Matt Ryan has been involved in the Arsenal squad twice since his loan transfer and has missed the last two Premier League games because of a small injury but Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is optimistic that the Australia national team star would be available for the Aston Villa game on Saturday afternoon. The starter's spot is open for Matt Ryan after Bernd Leno was sent off during the league game at Wolves on Tuesday night. As a result of the red card, Bernd Leno is suspended for the Villa game. Arsenal finished that Wolves game with two men short due to the sending offs of David Luiz and Bernd Leno. Leno was replaced by third choice Alex Runnarsonfor the rest of the game after his red card and in the absence of the injured Matt Ryan.
