Ange Postecoglou says there’s a reason not to use Tim Cahill
Ange Postecoglou says there’s a reason not to use Tim Cahill for that long a period of time in the game versus Bangladesh that was played in Western Australia last week.
Cahill featured only for a short duration in that game in spite of being named the captain of the side in the absence of Mile Jedinak.
It surprised everyone, but, according to Postecoglou, the plan was to play the attacking game and for that, he needed players who are a little more free-flowing in terms of their movement.
So, he opted to keep Cahill out, but, that does not mean the veteran’s part would be limited in the future games too.
Talking to the reporters, Postecoglou said, “It was a case of picking horses for courses. We also wanted to give playing time to a few players who have not had too much of experience of playing at this level.”
“As far as Timmy is concerned, he is still a vital cog in this team and he is in good nick. For a few minutes that he was out there today, there was spring in his steps. He was raring and was keen to make a contribution. There can’t be a better thing for us to have one of our best players to be in this kind of mood with a big game coming up versus Tajikistan.”
Tajikistan will prove to be a tougher opponent than Bangladesh for Australia, that’s for sure. Cahill will probably get slotted back into the starting XI for that game which is to be played in Dushanbe.
Cahill is presently playing in China for Shanghai Shenhua which is the topmost club over there.
The charismatic playmaker has netted 7 times representing Shenhua in 22 matches so far.
