Aaron Mooy reacts after Brighton’s win over Norwich City
Australia international Aaron Mooy has expressed his delight after Brighton & Hove Albion secured a 1-0 win over Norwich City on the road. The Seagulls have picked up seven points since the season resumption after the COVID-19 break and they are now holding a healthy nine-point advantage over the drop zone with five games to play.
Speaking after the 1-0 triumph, Mooy was undoubtedly delighted and talked up the importance of the result. The Seagulls faced a late scare after substitute Adam Idah hit the woodwork and Mooy expressed his relief over the incident. He told: “It was a massive result. We were under pressure because everyone was expecting us to win and take a big step towards safety so we were delighted to get the job done. But no, I don’t think we’re safe. We have to keep trying to get as many points as possible until we are mathematically sure. We have to keep working hard. My heart was in my mouth when they hit the post at the end. We got a bit of luck and sometimes that happens, but I thought we deserved it.”
Brighton have already matched their points tally of 36 from the previous campaign and they have the opportunity to reach the 40-point park before the end of the season. Under manager Graham Potter, the club have transformed from a defensive side to a team which likes to keep possession of the ball and they have managed to go through the entire campaign without dropping into the relegation places.
With a nine-point advantage over the bottom three, they are very much assured of their spot in the Premier League next term and the onus now remains on strengthening the squad further such that they can climb further up the standings next term. Brighton have occupied an average position of 15 over the course of the current campaign.
